If current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim light heavyweight champion Jon Jones did not meet expectations during last weekend's pay-per-view (PPV) return -- despite a clear cut unanimous decision win over Ovince Saint Preux -- some new details surrounding the final days of his UFC 197 training camp may explain why.
And it's not the kind of situation you would wish on anyone.
Aside from his brief stint in county jail, "Bones" had to sit idly by and watch his mom lose her leg to diabetes, information he revealed during the UFC 200 press conference earlier this week (via MMA Junkie) in New York (watch it).
Said Jones:
"In my last fight, you know, I had a lot of stuff stacked up against me. A lot of you guys don't really realize what's been going on in my personal life. My mom is in a real bad position. She's really losing a fight to diabetes right now. She got her leg cut off the same week of my fight. So that really messed with me a lot. I was in jail the same month of my fight. Just going through a lot of stuff, man. I hadn't fought in over 15 months. Everyone's talking about my performance being so bad. I got punched twice. I won by unanimous decision. So it's like, if that's a bad performance, then look at the level people expect from me. It's really not a bad problem to have. I went out there, I didn't feel comfortable in the Octagon, and I still absolutely dominated that fight."
And the follow up:
Thank you I regret saying she's losing the battle what I meant to say was that shes in a battle. Please pray for her https://t.co/lGY2Nn2Y7H

Get well soon, Mrs. Jones.
With last Saturday night's victory, Jones not only secured the temporary title, but also a UFC 200 main event showdown against longtime rival Daniel Cormier. "DC" was expected to meet "Bones" at UFC 197; however, an untimely injury delayed their grudge match until July.
