Trainer: UFC trying to keep Conor McGregor off UFC 205 in New York is 'going too far'

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Despite this bold claim, Conor McGregor will not be fighting at UFC 200 on July 9, 2016 against Nate Diaz, that much we know.

But will the fiery Irishman and arguably the biggest star on the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) roster be on the first-ever event in New York, which is set to go down on Nov. 12, 2016 inside famed Madison Square Garden?

According to Ariel Helwani's comments on The MMA Hour, UFC president Dana White has already ruled out "Notorious" for that event. Something McGregor's head coach, John Kavanagh, was not pleased to hear, as he says should McGregor be blackballed from the monumental event as well, the punishment will be going too far.

Especially since Conor already received a "pointlessslap on the wrist after he was pulled from his Nate Diaz rematch at UFC 200.

"That was hard to hear. I really think that is going too far. He (Conor) was bold, but it wasn't anything that bad. We got the slap on the wrist for 200, but we can't be put on the naughty (list) for New York. As an Irish guy in New York, the first card at Madison Square Garden, I think Conor will show up anyway and fight someone in the changing room if he doesn't put him on the card. We have to be on the New York card."

Kavanagh went on to say he is 51-percent optimistic that Conor and the UFC brass will come to a peaceful conclusion to all of the drama surrounding UFC 200.

That's because he's confident the two sides have not gotten past a point of no return with their squabbles and the mutual respect is still there. Whether or not everything gets straightened out before July, or even November, remains to be seen.

If Conor somehow manages to be absent from the highly-anticipated New York event, this other superstar will be gearing up for her return, anyway.
