UFC 197 results: Yair Rodriguez scores insane flying head kick knockout to annhilate Andre Fili

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Featherweight up-and-comers Yair Rodriguez and Andre Fili collided tonight (Sat., April 23, 2016), kicking off the UFC 197 pay-per-view (PPV) main card inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Emphasis on kicking, as that's what Rodriguez did in spectacular fashion to score a ridiculous second round head kick knockout.

Rodriguez got the action started with intense pressure from the start, attacking with his legs and putting Fili on the run early. Rodriguez continued to stalk Fili and eventually the fight hit the floor, where the Mexican threatened with a heel hook before unleashing some solid ground-and-pound. Fili was eventually able to slow down Rodriguez from the bottom, bucking from time-to-time to try and get out from underneath his weight. Rodriguez eventually stood up with 45 seconds remaining in the opening round, landing another leg kick as Fili responded with a hard punch. Fili attempted a takedown at the buzzer, but nothing materialized as he headed back to his corner clearly winded.

Rodriguez came out for the second kicking and flying. It was Fili, though, who connected with a low kick that took the legs out from underneath Rodriguez. Moments later, Rodriguez scored a takedown as Fili worked hard to keep him in full guard with a body triangle. Once again, Rodriguez let him back to his feet and then NAILED him with a highlight-reel flying round house switch kick to the face.

Ringside announced Mike Goldberg called it one of the most "spectacular knockouts" in UFC history. And he might not be exaggerating too much -- it was an incredible, creative finish that will stand the test of time.

Awesome.
