UFC on FOX 19 results: Cub Swanson defeats Hacran Dias by unanimous decision

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Cub Swanson (22-7) snapped his two-fight losing streak at UFC on FOX 19 earlier tonight (Sat. April 16, 2016), defeating Hacran Dias (23-4-1) inside Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla.

All three judges scored the bout 29-28.

Swanson, 32, who returned to the Octagon after a year-long absence, used his footwork to avoid the attacks of Dias and landed key knockdowns in the first and third rounds, which proved to be the difference.

In the opening round, both Dias and Swanson moved in and out to establish range and distance. Aside from exchanging low leg kicks with one another, neither fighter landed any significant strikes in the round. Swanson came forward a few times with combinations, but came up empty. The No.6-ranked UFC Featherweight did land a solid kick to the body about half way through the opening frame. Dias whiffed on a takedown attempt toward the end of the round.

Dias continued to have success with his low leg kicks to start things off, but Swanson landed a big left hook, which knocked the Brazilian to the canvas. Swanson tried to capitalize, but "Barnabe" survived. Dias was able to get back to his feet. Swanson landed another left hook and briefly switched stances before returning to orthodox. Dias moved in on another takedown attempt, but again, came up empty. Swanson landed a low kick which caused Dias to fall down, but he popped right back up to his feet.

Dias clinched up with Swanson to start off the third round and attempted to snap his head down, but Swanson broke free. Swanson missed on a spinning-back kick and followed that up with a big right hand. Moments later Swanson floored Dias for the second time in the fight with a high kick. Swanson swarmed him on the ground looking to finish, but the Brazilian was able to defend against it. Swanson stood up and dove in with big punches in the final seconds of the bout.

A solid victory for Swanson, who needed to get off the snide and back in the win column. He is now 7-2 in UFC competition. Dias falls to 3-3 in defeat.
