Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight titleholder Robbie Lawler last defended his belt when he defeated Carlos Condit in an epic five-round war at UFC 195 back in January.
As one of the most popular fighters on the UFC roster, Lawler's impending return to action is a highly-anticipated event. Not for nothing, but the 34-year-old also claimed Fight of the Year (2015) honors when he finished Rory MacDonald by fifth-round TKO back at UFC 189.
It now appears that an official timetable and opponent have been made for Lawler's next Octagon appearance, per UFC president Dana White in a recent interview while attending Resurrection Fighting Alliance 37 Friday night to film "Lookin' for a Fight."
"It’s more than likely going to be (Tyron) Woodley," said White, also stating that the 170-pound title fight should happen at either UFC 201 or UFC 202.
For what it's worth, Woodley has been holding out for a title shot since defeating Kelvin Gastelum via split-decision back at UFC 183. Before that, the 34-year-old wrestler had defeated Carlos Condit at UFC 171 and Dong Hyun Kim via knockout at UFC Fight Night 48.
Nothing has been made completely official, but it now appears the mixed martial arts world will finally get a meeting between two of American Top Team's finest.
