Francis Ngannou (7-1) closed the right eye of Curtis "Razor" Blades (5-1) with punches at UFC FIght Night 86 earlier this afternoon (Sun. April 10, 2016) and handed the UFC newcomer his first career loss.
"The Predator" defeated Blades by technical knockout inside Zagreb Arena, in Zagreb, Croatia. Referee Kevin Sataki called it a day in between rounds two and three on the advice of the doctor after Blades eye was swollen shut from eating several of Ngannou's big punches in the first two rounds.
Blades landed a jab to start things off and it stunned Ngannou. Blades went in on a takedown, but did not succeed. Ngannou landed a big straight left, which backed up Blades. He then anded another left hand that dropped Blades and swarmed him, but "Razor" made it back to his feet and clinched up the Cameroon native. Blades landed a nice double-leg take down, but "The Predator" got back to his feet. Ngannou landed a nice combination before the round ended.
Ngannou landed a pair of big punches to begin the second frame, and Blades right eye began to close up from swelling. Blades was able to land his second takedown of the fight and pass to side control, but Ngannou made it back up to his feet. The France-based fighter began to pick his shots for the remainder of the round as Blades right eye was swollen shut.
Referee Kevin Sataka stopped the bout in between rounds on the advice of the doctor, due to Blades not being able to see out of his right eye.
Impressive victory for Ngannou, who is now 2-0 in UFC competition. His win streak now stands at six straight fights. Disappointing loss for Blades in his debut, but he should return to action soon.
