For a minute, Justin Salas looked good out there in the first round of his "prelims" fight on the UFC 196 pay-per-view (PPV) card tonight (Sat., March 5, 2016) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He ducked under a high kick by his lightweight opponent Jason Saggo and landed an absolutely beautiful double leg into a takedown. Unfortunately for him, Salas landed right in the guard of a very high level black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, trained by the Gracie Barra tradition.
Saggo kept a high guard, used a mission control to threaten a submission, waited for Salas to attempt to pull out and then landed an omo plata sweep into top control.
From there, this was all Saggo's world, controlling Salas easily while he pounded the fighter into submission. He got the official stoppage at 4:31 of the very first round.
With the win, the Canadian moves to 10-2 (2-1 UFC), while Salas drops to 12-6 (3-3 UFC).
