Rematches! UFC 199 headlined by middleweight and bantamweight title bouts on June 4 in Los Angeles

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

It's official! UFC 199 is coming to the City of Angels and will be headlined by a pair of title bouts featuring grudge matches of men who truly do not like one another.

As announced on Twitter by UFC:

Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber have a long history of hatred for one another dating back to World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC). Cruz lost his first ever mixed martial arts (MMA) fight to Faber at WEC 26 in 2007 via that famous Team Alpha Male guillotine choke, and remains the sole blemish on his sterling career.

Cruz, 21-1, avenged that loss in 2011 at UFC 132, defeating Faber, 33-8, via five-round unanimous decision. Shortly after that, the "Dominator" was plagued for nearly four years of injuries, returning in January with an improbable but spectacular recapturing of his belt over T.J. Dillashaw.

Faber, meanwhile, has remained the perennial contender at 135 pounds, losing only to Cruz and Renan Barao in title bouts at that weight class.

The bad blood between Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman is fresher but with no less animus. Rockhold, 15-2, stopped Weidman via ground and pound in the fourth round of their UFC 194 fight in December, a match that had been relatively even up until an ill-advised spinning kick attempt by the champion.

The first loss of his MMA career, Weidman, 13-1, is eager to prove that his domination of the middleweight division was no fluke by avenging his loss come June 4.
