Report: Gegard Mousasi vs Derek Brunson possible for UFC 200 in July

Per Haljestam-USA TODAY Sports

It's not Anderson Silva, but it's a fight.

Gegard Mousasi's calls to face "The Spider" went unanswered after Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) officials booked Silva to face off against Uriah Hall at the upcoming UFC 198 card on May 14, in Curitiba, Brazil.

Instead, Joe Silva and Co. are looking to book Mousasi to face off against Derek Brunson at the upcoming UFC 200 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which is set to pop off from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 9, 2016.

That's according to a report from FOX Sports.

Mousasi is fresh off a unanimous decision win over Thales Leites at UFC Fight Night 87 on Feb. 27, 2016 in London England (recap here), his fifth win inside the Octagon.

As for Brunson, he won his fourth straight by absolutely obliterating Roan Carneiro at UFC Fight Night 83 last month (see it). Derek has been on quite the roll, winning six of seven under the UFC banner, with his lone loss coming at the hands of top contender, Yoel Romero.

The middleweight matchup now joins an intriguing heavyweight tilt between Cain Velasquez and Travis Browne (details) as the first two bouts considered for the monumental event.

We're still four months away from the fight, but it's never too early to start dropping predictions, so give us yours in the comments section below.
