World Series of Fighting (WSOF) presented WSOF 29: "Gaethje vs. Foster" on March 12, 2016 at the Bank of Colorado Arena in Greeley, Colo. The main event was a lightweight title defense for the undefeated Justin Gaethje against top contender Brian Foster.
Gaethje made quick work of Foster, finishing him with leg kicks at 1:43 of the first round, which led him to do a backflip off the cage to celebrate. Unbeknownst to the fans, the Colorado State Boxing Commission (CSBC) warned him in advance not to do his trademark celebration if he won.
As a result, CSBC had to back up its warning with an actual punishment and just handed Gaethje an indefinite suspension for "unprofessional conduct." There's little doubt Gaethje will appeal, given that most indefinite suspensions or "lifetime bans" don't hold up.
Gaethje wasn't the only one to earn a post-show sit down from CSBC. His opponent was suspended six months or until a doctor medically clears his left knee.
Other suspensions including the reason where applicable are below.
Mike Hayes: Suspended 30 days (laceration)
Josh Cavan: Suspended 45 days (laceration)
Clayton Wimer: Suspended 45 days (nasal fracture)
Josh Huber: Suspended 30 days (laceration)
Danny Mainus: Suspended 60 days
Patrick Davis: Suspended 30 days
Jacob Flesher: Suspended 30 days
Chris Morgan: Suspended 45 days (weight)
