Age is just a state of mind and 40 is just a number.
Or at least that's what seems to be the case when it comes to Mike Pyle, who added another dubya to his mixed martial arts (MMA) record on UFC Fight Night 82 in MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas tonight (Sat., Feb. 6, 2016).
Pyle and Sean Spencer went to war for most of three rounds in a fight that saw both men rocked and nearly finished several times.
In the first round Spencer used his speed and left jab to set up the overhand right that dropped Pyle. However the mullet-wearing veteran survived and came out in the second round with a renewed urgency.
Pyle hurt Spencer several times in the second round with knees and a heavy forearm that had his 28-year-old opponent staggering around the cage. Spencer, however, recovered enough to make the round close and force a third round.
Both corners urged their fighters to find some urgency in the third round and seek the killing blow. It was Pyle who found it, late, when he landed a spinning elbow that glanced off Spencer's forehead and sent him into the stanky leg dance across the mat.
Pyle got the stoppage at 4:25 of Round 3 to earn his seventh career TKO and 27th win since he began fighting in 1999. Spencer, meanwhile, drops to 12-5.
