Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) rolls into Las Vegas, Nevada for a UFC Fight Night 82 event, emanating from inside MGM Grand tonight (Sat., Feb. 6, 2016) and it features a match-up of Welterweight studs Johny Hendricks and Stephen Thompson in the evening's main course.
"Bigg Rigg" and "Wonderboy" are two of the 170-pound division's heaviest hitters and they are eager to move up the ladder and secure a shot at champion Robbie Lawler. In the co-main event, Heavyweight brutes Roy Nelson and Jared Rosholt will slug it out for up to 15 minutes.
Elsewhere on the main card in "Sin City" are exciting bouts between Top-15 Light Heavyweight contenders Ovince Saint Preux and Rafael Cavalcante, as well as a Flyweight frenzy between Joseph Benavidez and Zach Makovsky.
However, before we can get to the main card, which will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) at 10 p.m. ET, Maniacs everywhere will be treated to a set of six "Prelims" exchanges, beginning on the Fight Pass digital streaming service at 7:00 p.m. ET, and then transferring to FS1 at 8:00 p.m. ET for the final four.
Below are the results recaps for the first two "Prelims" tilts:
Mickey Gall vs. Mike Jackson
Gall had much eyes on this Fight Pass main event as a win would earn him a shot at the debuting CM Punk later this year.
Lots of movement from Jackson early. Gall scores a quick knockdown and takes Jackson's back. Quick rear-naked choke victory for the New Jersey native.
Gall improves to 2-0 professionally, while Jackson loses his first meeting under the bright lights and is now 0-1.
Result: Gall via first-round submission
Artem Lobov vs. Alex White
Struggling featherweight prospects collided in the first bout of the evening as "The Russian Hammer" took on "The Spartan."
Lobov pressing the action to start. White circling away from the power hand. White connects with a kick, slips the right. The Irishman scores with his trademark right hand. Lobov catches the kick. White really extends on his punches, even though he has the reach advantage. White lands a knee. A bit of clinch work now from both men with two minutes to go. You'd think Lobov wouldn't desperately avoid the clinch seeing as how he was controlled for the majority of his last fight against Ryan Hall. White in on a takedown after clipping Lobov with a good right hand. Butterfly guard for the SBG Ireland product. White with a nice barrage of punches and knees as Lobov makes it back to his feet. 10-9 White
White definitely more loose and confident in round two. Good body punch for the American. White lands a nice counter left. White eats a left from Lobov. Nice combos from the 27-year-old White, both to the body and head. Nice blows from both men in close. White comes up short on a weak takedown attempt. Swelling above the left eye of Lobov is worsening. Very nice double leg takedown following a combo. The Russian-born-Irishman Lobov back up quickly. They separate with 30 seconds left. Lobov backs White up into the cage, but does nothing with it. 20-18 White
Solid jab and body combo by White. Beautiful straight left. Lobov's output is minimal, most likely because of his respect for White's strikes. The Missouri native White now gets takedown number three. Lobov looking to wall walk. White showing some great grappling, keeping Lobov on all fours. Lobov back up though with 90 seconds. Lobov now doing his best Nick Diaz impression, walking forward with his hands down winging punches. White maintains composure and picks him apart. Another takedown for White as round three comes to a close. 30-27 White
White ends a two-fight losing streak and returns to UFC after a 14-month layoff, while Lobov falls to 11-11-(1) professionally.
Result: White via unanimous decison (30-27 x3)
