Alistair Overeem: I didn't train with teammate Andrei Arlovski, he's not my friend

Alistair Overeem was rewarded with a new UFC contract and a main event tilt following a knockout of ex-heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos last December.

"The Reem" will face Jackson-Wink MMA teammate Andrei Arlovski at UFC Fight Night 87 on May 8, 2016, on the mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion's debut card in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

It was all part of "The Demolition Man's" plan.

Overeem, 35, is the owner of a three-fight win streak, which includes finishes of "JDS" and fellow Dutchman Stefan Struve. The former Strikeforce heavyweight champion seeks UFC gold and, according to the man himself, he has no problem touching up the face of "Pit Bull."

From his conversation at the UFC Fight Night 84 Q&A session (via MMA Fighting):

"We didn't actually train together. You can count [the times] on one hand; maybe two. We don't socialize, we're not friends, we don't train together. There's respect, of course, he's a teammate. There's not much of a relationship. That's also why I've fought teammates in the past. I don't have problem with fighting Andrei, who's not my friend. He's my teammate."

Can't imagine why they wouldn't be buddy-buddy.

Overeem later commented that he would work out a training schedule with his coaches at the Albuquerque, N.M., camp when he returns to the states in a few weeks.

This isn't the first time Overeem butted heads with a teammate.

After "The Reem" lost to then Jackson-Wink MMA fighter Travis Browne in Aug. 2013, "Hapa" scolded the former upon his arrival to the New Mexico fighter factory in 2014. According to past training partners, Overeem hasn't always been the nicest of people to work with.

With that being said, he's got a fight on his hands with Arlovski who, before falling via first-round knockout to Stipe Miocic at UFC 195 back in January, was on a six-fight win streak.

Will Overeem prevail in his first UFC headliner before a hometown crowd, or will Arlovski get back on his high horse and dust the 55-fight veteran?

Time will tell.
