As we approach the fascinating spectacle that is the Bellator 149 card (results here), with the five-fight main card kicking off at 9 p.m. ET on Spike TV, betting lines have changed for one of the more intriguing bouts on the evening, a heavyweight grudge match between power-punchers Kimbo Slice and Dada 5000.
At first, it was Slice pegged as the -360 favorite by LV Sportsbook, but that changed yesterday (Thurs., Feb. 18, 2016) when the line abruptly swerved in the direction of Dada 5000, whose birth name is Dhafir Harris.
From ESPN's Brett Okamoto:
"Spoke to manager at LV Sportsbook in Vegas, betting line for Kimbo Slice moved from -360 to pick today. According to book manager, 'three to four guys' walked in and bet the limit about 20 times. 'Just kept firing on the dog over and over.' For a Bellator fight, LV Sportsbook has taken in 'an unheard of amount of money' according to the manager. Another round of bets on Dada5000 by same 3-4 individuals at LV Superbook takes the Slice line back to a pick-em right now. Wow."
Talk about a swing in momentum. It would be wise to hold your hand and not lay down any wagers for the time being, even as we sit just hours away from showtime.
Other notable sportsbooks, like Bovada, are displaying similar lines for the emotionally-driven co-main event between former Miami street brawlers.
Both Slice and Dada will look to put a stamp on their longstanding feud, which goes back multiple decades to a time when they were part of the same group of friends. For the former UFC competitor Slice, he just wants his old friend to keep the past in the past.
