Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight veteran Jake Ellenberger attempted to continue his winning ways last night (Sat., Dec. 3, 2016) at TUF 24 Finale live on FOX Sports 1 from inside Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, but the always game Jorge Masvidal had other plans.
Outside of a few good shots, “Gamebred” dictated the entire fight. He hurt Ellenberger early with countless knees and elbows up along the cage and even prompted referee Herb Dean to nearly step in and stop the action, but “The Juggernaut” held on. While Ellenberger temporarily regained himself, things turned awry when he rushed in on Masvidal against the cage. Ellenberger awkwardly got his left foot stuck in the cage and ate power shots from an opportunistic Masvidal. Dean would call a timeout because Ellenberger was unable to defend himself and was looking for an official call from the commission if the stuck foot was an Octagon malfunction. In the end, Masvidal was awarded the first-round TKO stoppage and ultimately handed Ellenberger his sixth loss since 2013.

With this win, Masvidal improves his UFC welterweight record to 3-2, losing two split decisions to the likes of Benson Henderson and Lorenz Larkin. As he continues to move up the 170-pound ladder, Masvidal should only improve as an all-around fighter. He’ll surely enter the top 15 in 2017.
As for Ellenberger, the struggling veteran had the following to say about the weird stoppage:
