Dana White: I offered Nick Diaz a fight at welterweight, but he turned it down

MMA: UFC 183-Silva vs Diaz Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Maybe the fight wasn’t big enough?

Former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz had a chance to make his mixed martial arts (MMA) return to the 170-pound division earlier this year, following the conclusion of his lengthy suspension from Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).

I guess he was ... busy.

"I offered him a fight,” UFC President Dana White said. “They turned it down.”

Diaz may not be interested in going back down to welterweight after testing the waters at 185 pounds nearly two years back. In addition, the big money fights at welterweight involve Conor McGregor and the current champion, Tyron Woodley.

The longtime veteran also expressed interest in boxing but won’t be able to try his hand at the “sweet science” until the conclusion of his UFC contract. The means to that end, not surprisingly, is cage fighting.

I hear this guy is still waiting for an opponent. Maybe he’d be interested in moving back up to middleweight?
