Now that former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion Chris Weidman has been eliminated from the 185-pound title race, at least for the time being, “All American” is starting to field offers from the world’s largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion for his 2017 return.
One of said offers includes streaking 185-pound contender Gegard Mousasi.
Unfortunately for “The Dreamcatcher,” who is trying to reach the middleweight summit as quickly as possible, Weidman is still recovering from his latest outing and has a couple of other names to consider.
Weidman (13-2) coughed up his division title in a technical knockout loss to Luke Rockhold roughly one year ago. After a couple of nagging injuries halted a quick turnaround, “All American” resurfaced at UFC 205 in New York.
Where he was promptly smashed by Yoel Romero.
His loss to “Soldier of God” will keep him inside the barracks for another few months, but it doesn’t sound like there is a shortage of available names ready and waiting to greet him upon his return.
Depending on how long they are willing to take it easy, pal.
