The strawweights will take over later tonight (Sat., Dec. 17, 2016) at UFC on FOX 22 live on FOX from Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif., as Team Alpha Male standout Paige VanZant welcomes Michelle Waterson back to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Octagon. As a prelude to the women's main event, rising welterweight prospects Mickey Gall and Sage Northcutt will collide for ultimate bragging rights, while Urijah Faber makes his final walk to the Octagon in a bantamweight bout opposite Brad Pickett.
But, before the premier bouts get underway on FOX starting at 8 p.m. ET, a portion of UFC on FOX 22's "Prelims" undercard action will go down exclusively on Fight Pass starting at 3:30 p.m. ET. Find out what happened right here as the UFC on FOX 22 Fight Pass undercard recaps roll in real-time:
Eddie Wineland vs. Takeya Mizugaki
Former UFC bantamweight title challenger Wineland (23-11-1) looked to continue his resurgence at 135 pounds when he met perennial contender Mizugaki (21-11-2) in the Fight Pass headliner. While Wineland offered a lot of movement and angle work in the early going, it was Mizugaki's improved technical striking that scored the better points. That was until Wineland landed a vicious right hand to the Japanese veteran's temple, following it up with another right hand to the chin as Mizugaki attempted to regain his footing. The referee saw enough and stepped in to award Wineland the first-round TKO finish.
Hector Sandoval vs. Fredy Serrano
Olympic wrestler Serrano (3-2) looked to get back into the UFC win column when he challenged well-rounded flyweight veteran Sandoval (13-3), who was coming off a debut loss to Wilson Reis at UFC 201.Despite Serrano's accolades, it was Sandoval who landed a big takedown early, following his efforts up with shots to the body and a stunning right hand to the temple. Sandoval even defended a takedown and countered with a flush left hook to end Round 1. Sandoval landed even more offense to begin the second frame, which backed Serrano up and allowed Sandoval to sink in a tight guillotine attempt. The Columbian wrestler sneaked out and nearly landed an illegal knee late in the round before pulling the shot back and apologizing to Sandoval. Serrano was able to land a spinning elbow and body kicks in Round 3, but it was simply too little too late, as Sandoval jumped out on the scorecards early and walks away with the unanimous decision win.
Bojan Velickovic vs. Sultan Aliev
In the first bout of the day, welterweight powerhouse Aliev (14-2) welcomed submission specialist Velickovic (14-4) back to the Octagon. After a brief feeling out period, a patient Aliev landed a crucial takedown and began to score points in top position. But it was Velickovic who threatened with an arm bar attempt to make the Russian sweat. Despite possessing more power in his hands, Aliev was ineffective against the more versatile Velickovic on the feet, but he fixed his striking issues with another takedown to switch up the tempo. After regaining his footing, Velickovic went to sink in a guillotine choke, but Aliev slipped out of the Serbian's bloody grasp. It was much of the same to end the bout as Velickovic slid off of Aliev's back after a timely transition, only to have Aliev ride out the third round in top position to solidify his dominate ground performance. Aliev earns the split-decision win.
