Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley isn’t letting up one bit in his efforts to secure a “big money” fight against Nick Diaz. After the Stockton, Calif., slugger settled his issues with Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), which paves the way for him to return to mixed martial arts (MMA) action, Woodley took to Twitter to lobby for the fight once again.
Tyron’s previous efforts fell on deaf ears, as he was instead matched up against Stephen Thompson at UFC 205 earlier this year, a fight that ended via majority draw (see it unfold here and the scorecards here).
As for Diaz, he hasn’t stepped foot inside a cage since losing to Anderson Silva in at UFC 183 in Jan. 2015. That marked his third straight defeat — though it was eventually overturned to a no-contest because of this — with two of the defeats being title fights.
Despite the skid, Diaz always seems to be at the top of fighters’ wish lists when it comes to picking a fight because his name attracts fans to the arenas in droves. Whether or not UFC matchmakers decide to give him yet another title fight coming off a defeat — or if it intends to include him in UFC 209 (the Stockton area code) remains to be seen.
If so, you can bet there will be a ton of top-ranked 170-pound fighters filled with anger and disappointment ... especially this one.
