Max Holloway is a man on a mission. And during last night’s (Sat., Dec. 10, 2016) UFC 206 pay-per-view (PPV) event in Toronot, Ontario, Canada, "Blessed" completes step one in his goal to become the undisputed Featherweight champion of the world by winning the interim division title.
It didn’t come easy, as he faced a very game Anthony Pettis, who is no stranger to gold himself, ruling the Lightweight division for a bit before coughing it up and eventually making the drop down to 145 pounds.
But, Holloway would not be denied, as he took it to the former champion and eventually put on the finishing touched in the third round, delivering body strike after strike to eventually force the official on duty to put an end to the punishment, capping off a bad week for "Showtime."
That is now 10 straight win for "Blessed," who at just 25 years of age, is going places, and fast.
Up next is a title unification bout against current featherweight champion Jose Aldo. It’s a fight the Hawaiian has been seeking for quite sometime now; picking on the Brazilian champion at every turn.
If calling him a "pussy" wasn’t enough, Max has now dubbed Jose "Waldo," as in "Where’s Waldo." It’s an obvious dig at "Junior’s" absence from the spotlight since declaring he would no longer fight for the promotion. But, he will come to the forefront soon enough, as he is set to defend his strap (that he never actually won back) against Holloway in 2017.
The fight has all of the makings of an all-out war, as Max has proven he is as game as they come and Aldo has a history of putting one one memorable bout after another. All that’s left to do is wait for UFC matchmakers to do their job and sign, seal and deliver this 145-pound title fight.
