In a battle between Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight title hopefuls, surging youngster Robert Whittaker took on streaking knockout artist Derek Brunson last night (Sat., Nov. 26, 2016) at UFC Fight Night 101 live on FOX Sports 1 from inside Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia. Whittaker did not disappoint in his first main event billing.
After Brunson punched himself out mid-way through the first round, Whittaker took advantage and began to tag the powerful middleweight. He had Brunson hurt on more than one occasion, but capped off his efforts with a nasty head kick that sent Brunson swirling to the canvas. From there, Whittaker would pour on the ground-and-pound in front of thousands of screaming fans before earning the TKO stoppage.

With this win, Whittaker has to be mentioned alongside the collection of divisional title threats entering 2017. He just withstood one of the more dangerous opening barrages any middleweight has to offer and has now won six straight. At just 25 years of age, Whittaker is beginning to find a nice groove at 185 pounds.
