Top-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight slugger, Derek Brunson (No. 8), will look to inch up the 185-pound rankings, quite literally, when he tangles with The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): "The Smashes" winner, Robert Whittaker (No. 8), this Saturday night (Nov. 26, 2016) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 101, which takes place inside Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.
Brunson has bulldozed his way into the Top 10, finishing his four most recent fights via technical knockout all within the first round. He will look to extend that streak to five -- and notch his sixth consecutive victory inside the Octagon -- when he enters hostile territory this weekend in FOX Sports 1's headlining act. But, before that, let's enjoy some Brunson-inspired violence that took place earlier this year at the expense of Roan Carneiro in UFC Fight Night 83's co-main event. This is how MMAmania.com's Patrick Stumberg called the live action that night in Pittsburgh:
"Tentative start to the fight. One minute in. Flurry from Brunson, left hand connects. Carneiro just misses with a right hook. Quick exchange. Carneiro tries to tie up, but cannot do so. Carnerio slips on the advance and Brunson goes to work with relentless ground-and-pound. Two minutes in. Amid the onslaught, Brunson slams a right hand through Carneiro's arms and out he goes."
Whittaker will need to avoid that tricky left hand at all costs on Saturday night (and we're pretty sure that he does) if he wants to remain upright.
