With Luke Rockhold injured, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has a new headliner for its upcoming UFC Fight Night 101 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1, which takes place Nov. 27, 2016 (Nov. 26 in United States) inside Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
Derek Brunson vs. Robert Whittaker.
Brunson (16-3) is fresh off his technical knockout win over Uriah Hall at the UFC Fight Night 94 event last September in Hidalgo, Texas. It was his fifth victory in a row, which is the same as Whittaker (16-4) after the Aussie outworked Rafael Natal back in April.
“I think this fight is the set-up for title contention,” Whittaker told UFC.com. “I think either one of us could be fighting for a title and this is almost like the title fight. It’s two dudes who have the ability to get to the top and this is gonna be very exciting.”
I think the winner of this fight may have something to say about that.
