Who is the greatest fighter of the modern era?
It has to be Conor McGregor, the 28-year-old mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter who currently holds the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight title, in addition to the lightweight strap he just won at UFC 205 (video).
It certainly isn’t Floyd Mayweather.
Despite making $300 million in one night, retiring from boxing with a perfect 49-0 record, and holding championship titles in five different weight classes, “Money” just can’t compare to “Notorious.”
Just ask UFC President Dana White.
"Conor McGregor, if he touches you, you go to sleep," White told TMZ. "Floyd puts people to sleep too, with his fighting style, not with his hands. You know how Floyd knocks people out? When they're not looking. Watch the Victor Ortiz fight. Floyd can say what he wants about Conor, but even other fighters have to respect him. He's special. Floyd's never even come close to doing to other fighters what Conor does."
This is yet another thing McGregor has done that Floyd hasn’t.
McGregor (21-3) reached MMA immorality last weekend (Nov. 12, 2016) with his second-round technical knockout win over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 (replay). The victory not only cemented his place among the all-time greats, it also reignited talks of a Mayweather “super fight.”
Because this is the internet and that’s what we do.
