UFC 205: Tyron Woodley vs Stephen Thompson full fight video highlights

After dismantling Robbie Lawler via first-round knockout at UFC 201 earlier this year, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight king Tyron Woodley put his title on the line last night (Sat., Nov. 12, 2016) at UFC 205 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from Madison Square Garden in New York City, N.Y., against surging Karate expert Stephen Thompson. "Wonderboy" earned the right to challenge Woodley after winning seven-straight at 170 pounds, including victories over Johny Hendricks, Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger.

Woodley dictated the pace of the first round with huge shots from top control, suffocating "Wonderboy" and taking away his striking in the process. The champ even opened up a cut on Thompson's nose. However, Thompson found his range in the second and started to tag a tired Woodley. The two elite welterweights went tit-for-tat in the third before absolute hell broke loose in the fourth. Woodley staggered Thompson with a vicious right hand that sent the Karate kid to the canvas. The champ poured it on from there and nearly sunk in a guillotine choke, but Thompson mustered unworldly resolve to end the round in top position. Round 5 featured complete dominance by "Wonderboy," who picked on the champion at will.

In the end, nobody won. The judges scored the bout 47-47, 47-47, and 48-47 for a majority draw. Bruce Buffer accidentally announced it as a split-decision win for "Chosen One," but would later make a correction and called the bout a draw.

While Woodley didn't defeat Thompson at UFC 205, he leaves NYC with his 170-pound title. He did fairly well against a confusing puzzle in "Wonderboy" when he had the energy to do it, but the champion needed to be more active in the fifth frame to capture a victory.
