Eddie Alvarez reveals Conor McGregor's big UFC 205 announcement: 'He's having two kids and his girlfriend isn't having twins'

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

It was an intense, wild atmosphere earlier this afternoon at the final press conference to promote UFC 205, which takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y., this Saturday night (Nov. 12, 2016). Featherweight champion, Conor McGregor, was, as usual, late to the festivities, which compelled his opponent, Lightweight kingpin, Eddie Alvarez, to take a few questions from the mixed martial arts (MMA) media before walking off the stage until "Notorious" arrived.

And when he did -- in a white Gucci fur coat -- the stage turned into chaos. McGregor tried to snatch Alvarez's belt, triggering a near-scuffle on the stage that company president Dana White had to break up (watch it here).

Moments later, after order was relatively restored to the dais, McGregor was asked about the "big" announcement that he has teased leading up to perhaps his history-making weekend. The Irishman, of course, side-stepped the question, encouraging fight fans to tune in on Saturday night and to order the pay-per-view (PPV) event -- twice -- to find out the answer.

Alvarez then interrupted, revealing that he knew the announcement. He asked if the audience wanted to hear it, and then when one reporter called him out on it, he said, "The big announcement is ... he's having two kids and his girlfriend isn't having twins."

McGregor, whose long-time girlfriend is Dee Devlin, didn't offer a response. In fact, he didn't even flinch. McGregor -- most likely realizing that Alvarez was trying to bait him into a ball of fury -- just sat there as if he didn't hear a thing, while Alvarez continued to peek over and see if his words were about to unravel "Notorious."

They didn't. In fact, McGregor seemed to cool off the longer the press conference lasted (watch full replay here) and didn't even threaten Alvarez during their separated staredown (see those here). That will likely not be the case tomorrow during the UFC 205 weigh-in event and definitely not on Saturday night when the cage door locks shut.
