Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight Josh Samman remains hospitalized in a coma after he was discovered unconscious last week in his apartment in South Florida, alongside roommate (and MMA ring announcer) Troy Kirkingburg.

While no official cause for his condition has been made available, the Internet has run wild with speculation, probably because it’s the Internet and that’s kind of why it exists these days.

But Samman’s mother recently issued a statement to reporter Christopher Rothstein (via FOX Sports) to shoot down some of the recent rumors:

"Josh is still in a coma, and more tests are being done. That is the latest update on my son's condition. And in spite of speculation, there was no heroin found in Josh's system whatsoever. No matter what people are posting on social media. The reason I am making this statement is, because Josh touched so many lives, and loved inspiring others, especially young people. I don't want them to lose faith in him, and whatever he brought out in them, because of the lies. He would want them to ‘never give up.’”

Kirkingburg was pronounced dead on arrival.

Samman, 28, rose to prominence as a contest on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). After blasting his way through his first three fights inside the TUF house — all finishes — “Anqa” was upended by eventual winner Kelvin Gastelum in the FOX Sports 1 semifinals.

His performances during the show were enough to warrant a call back, and Samman would make the most of his opportunity, jumping out to a 3-0 start with all two knockouts and one submission.

Unfortunately the Floridian would experience some turbulence in his next two fights. After Tamdan McCrory submitted him at UFC on FOX 17, Samman succumbed to strikes in his 185-pound bangfest opposite Tim Boetsch at UFC Fight Night 91 last July.

He currently does not have a fight scheduled.
