Submission: Watch Brandon Moreno sleep Louis Smolka last night at UFC Fight Night 96

New, comments

In a matchup of two aspiring young flyweights looking to make noise as 2017 comes to a close, Hawaiian Louis Smolka welcomed Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) newcomer Brandon Moreno to the Octagon last night (Sat., Oct. 1, 2016) at UFC Fight Night 96 live on FOX Sports 1 from Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. Smolka, who was originally scheduled to fight Sergio Pettis, had quietly recorded a 5-1 divisional clip coming into his bout with "The Assassin."

To much surprise, it didn't take Moreno that long to put the pressure on the 25-year-old Smolka and put him in precarious defensive positions. As Smolka regained his composure and went in for a takedown, Moreno sunk in a nasty guillotine choke and proceeded to put Smolka out. It was quite the first-round submission.

The finish and full fight highlights can be seen above courtesy of UFC.

With this win, Moreno quickly moves into the thick of thins at 125 pounds. He has a world champion before making his Octagon debut and should only improve at the age of 22. This is a huge victory that proves the talent outside of UFC is real.
