New year, new nose.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight contender Dustin Poirier continued his climb up the 155-pound ladder last weekend, turning away Irish import Joe Duffy at the UFC 195 pay-per-view (PPV) mixed martial arts (MMA) event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
But he didn't escape "Sin City" unscathed.
Poirier was forced to have surgery to repair his broken nose, which is expected to keep him benched for at least six weeks. That means "Diamond" fans shouldn't expect to see the former featherweight until late spring or early summer, once you factor in training camp.
Then again, that may depend on this.
Poirier (19-4) is now 3-0 since moving back up to the lightweight division, but has yet to impress the rankings committee, who stranded him at No. 12 despite his most recent performance.
