Elite Heavyweight contenders, Stipe Miocic and Andrei Arlovski, collide in the co-main event of UFC 195 last night (Sat., Jan. 2, 2016) and started brawling in a hurry.
The bout already had title implications attached to it, so both big men had much to fight for.
Miocic came into their meeting inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, coming off of a dominant technical knockout victory over Mark Hunt in 2015. Likely one signature win away from a shot at 265-pound gold, the Croatian-American went for broke when he faced "Pit Bull."
Arlovski, a winner of four-straight tilts in UFC, came out working the body of Miocic, who quickly retaliated with his own heat seekers.
However, Miocic had other plans and backed the Jackson-Wink MMA representative Arlovski toward the fence, landing a blistering compact right hook that spelled the beginning of the end.
The 33-year-old finished off Arlovski with brutal follow-up strikes for his second win in-a-row. And it took just 54 seconds. It's hard to deny him a shot at the winner of the upcoming Heavyweight title tussle between champion Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez at UFC 196 next month.
