Nik Lentz responds to 'clumsy' call out from BJ Penn, refuses to fight in March (or at featherweight)

Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

I think we can forget about BJ Penn fighting Nik Lentz.

"The Prodigy" wanted to come out of retirement as far back as last October. Not because he wanted to leave mixed martial arts (MMA) on a high note, but rather because a fight against Lentz would allow him to cold-cock Mike Dolce backstage.

Over this.

That gave Sonnen McGregor Lentz the opportunity to showcase his trash-talking skills, which got a little personal -- even for the fight game -- while promising to fight Penn anytime (his words here). But I guess he really meant anytime besides March 5, because he won't be ready in time for UFC 197.

In fact, Penn will be required to meet multiple conditions before "The Carny" (via MMA Fighting) agrees to fight him.

1. The fight cannot take place at featherweight
2. Penn must donate $22,000 to the Hawaii Dog Foundation in Mike Dolce's name
3. The fight will only take place when Lentz is ready to compete

There is also a long-winded rant about Penn being a broken suitcase who is leeching off his family's wealth and yadda-yadda-yadda, which you can read in its entirety here. Basically, Lentz is turning down the fight but blaming Penn for it with his silly stipulations.

Lentz (26-7-2, 1 NC) last competed at UFC on FOX 17, as a featherweight, where he secured a split decision win over Danny Castillo.
