Reigning 205-pound champion Daniel Cormier wants Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) to stop wasting his time with these other light heavyweights and give him the one fight he needs for his mixed martial arts (MMA) journey to be complete.
A rematch against Jon Jones.
Unfortunately, the belt-less "Bones" is suspended indefinitely and still does not yet know how the Albuquerque prosecutors are going to proceed after his alleged hit-and-run accident earlier this year (more on that here).
Cormier elaborates at the "Go Big" presser (via MMA Fighting):
"Obviously, I need [Jones]. As I move forward, in this fight in October and I face Alexander [Gustafsson], I need that guy. I need that guy to get back in here and fight me again. For my journey to be complete and for me to be complete as I finish this sport, I need him. And honestly, I wish him all the best so that he can actually get back and I can stop playing around with these guys and get back to business."
"DC" dropped a unanimous decision to Jones at UFC 182 back in January.
But before the Olympian can start campaigning for another shot at the former pound-for-pound king, he must first defeat Alexander Gustafsson, who will try to upset the 205-pound apple cart at UFC 192 next month in Houston, Texas. "The Mauler" is also hoping for a second go-round with "Bones."
It's true what they say, you don't know what you've got, 'til it's gone.
