Demetrious Johnson probably wasn't too thrilled to hear Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White say John Dodson was the rightful victor in their initial encounter a few years ago.
But, maybe he'll appreciate his boss's assessment of their rematch -- which went down last night (Sat., Sept. 5, 2015) at UFC 191 in Las Vegas, Nevada. That's because "Mighty Mouse" made it crystal clear to the judges -- and White -- the reason he's the Flyweight champ with a complete shutout victory over Jon Dodson.
It was a performance so impressive that it prompted White to declare that Demetrious is "probably" the pound-for-pound best fighter in the sport today (via MMA Junkie).
"This was the fight to make in this weight class and Dodson had the power, the speed, the experience and got destroyed; literally, he got shut down. Joe Rogan's probably right. ‘Mighty Mouse' is probably the pound-for-pound greatest fighter in the sport. He looked fantastic. The guy is an incredible fighter, he wanted this fight really bad and he went in and he imposed his will and he won every single round by a landslide. I know he's probably disappointed that he didn't get the finish because I know he really wanted to finish Dodson, but Dodson was the man. Dodson was the guy. This fight should have been a knockdown, drag-em-out war. It should have been a close fight and it wasn't any of that."
Unfortunately, some people still aren't buying that sentiment, as plenty of boo birds rained down last night from the MGM Grand Garden Arena crowd during the main event title fight.
Something White didn't appreciate, as he blasted those "drunk dummies" during the post-fight press conference (video replay here).
"You're always going to have those drunk dummies out there, booing, who are at the last five rounds, these guys have been here since 5:30 drinking. I don't know what they expect. He looked unbelievable tonight. And anybody that knows anything about the sport (saw that)."
Sober up, "dummies," and recognize the greatness in front of you.
