World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 24: "Fitch vs. Okami," which takes place at Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Conn., on Oct. 17, 2015, just got a little bit bigger ... in a smaller weight class no less.
WSOF has decided to pair off promising undefeated Flyweight fighters Donavon Frelow (5-0) and Magomed Bibulatov (9-0) in a five-round fight to crown the promotion's first-ever 125-pound champion.
Company President Ray Sefo offered his thoughts:
"We are looking forward to crowning the first champion ever in our fast-growing and highly-competitive flyweight division, on October 17. As two of the weight class' most dynamic stars who have yet to be beaten, Magomed and Donavon have earned their respective places in this historic championship fight, and we are confident that the winner will personify what being a champion in World Series of Fighting is about."
Bibulatov's signing was highly touted back in May as part of a trio of Russian prospects, including Magomed "Tiger" Magomedov and the controversial Vagab Vagabov from WSOF 23.
The recent announcement bolsters an already stacked card that features a Welterweight main event between Jon Fitch and Yushin Okami, along with a Heavyweight title defense for Blagoy Ivanov against Derrick Mehmen.
WSOF 24 will broadcast live on NBC Sports Network starting at 8:30 p.m. ET.
