It reads like a not-so ancient Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) main event on paper -- "Okami vs. Fitch" -- but it's now a signature World Series of Fighting (WSOF) match, which will take place at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn., on Oct. 17, 2015.
Fans who plan to watch WSOF 24 at home on WSOF.com and NBC Sports Network, as well as those in attendance in Connecticut, will be pleased to know that the upcoming mixed martial arts (MMA) event just gained seven more bouts.
Provided everyone stays injury-free, of course.
The headline fight for the "Prelims" action will be a Featherweight battle between former champion Rick Glenn (15-3) and rising star Adam Ward (15-6), winner of five straight coming into his promotional debut.
WSOF President Ray Sefo offered his thoughts on the new bouts:
"We are set to unleash what could very well be our most exciting lineup of preliminary bouts yet, filled with a diverse group of hungry, up-and-coming talent, future superstars and even a former world champion in Rick Glenn."
The pair won't be the only Featherweights on the undercard.
Alexandre "Capitao" Almeida (16-5) will meet Saul "The Spider" Almeida (18-5), with Alexandre looking for his fourth straight win and Saul looking for his sixth. They join 145-pound prospects Rodrigo "The Young Lion" Almeida (12-2) and his opponent Bruce "Pretty Boy" Boyington (10-8).
At Middleweight, Justin Torrey (7-1) will take on Rex "T-Rex" Harris (7-2) and Louis "Handgunz" Taylor (11-3) will debut against German fighter Nicolai Salchov (5-0).
A Welterweight bout on the "Prelims" card will feature Nunes Da Silva (5-1) vs. Colton Smith (5-4), and a Heavyweight fight to kick off the show will see Pat Walsh (6-2) take on Tyler King (9-3).
