Alistair Overeem: UFC champ Fabricio Werdum is scared, wants nothing to do with me

Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight titleholder Fabricio Werdum is so afraid of Alistair Overeem, he was willing to grant Cain Velasquez an immediate rematch, despite finishing him -- convincingly -- earlier this year in Mexico City.

Well, that's the impression I got after listening to "Demolition Man" on Chael Sonnen's recent podcast (via MMA Fighting):

"I know that Werdum doesn't like me. He doesn't want to fight me. I'm the kind of guy ... I can beat you. I can beat any heavyweight. Of course, that strikes fear in them. I pay attention to what people say, what heavyweight fighters say in the UFC. Werdum doesn't want anything to do with me, either. I'm very much looking forward to fighting him again. Again, these guys, they don't want to fight me because they know they can lose."

An interesting perspective, considering Overeem has been finished three times in his UFC career.

Nevertheless, the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion does hold a unanimous decision win over Werdum from the days of the now-defunct promotion, though it should be noted "The Reem" was actually out-struck by the Brazilian from bell-to-bell.

In addition, Overeem was submitted by "Vai Cavalo" back in 2006 when competing under the PRIDE banner.

If the hulking Dutchman wants to make the rest of the 265-pound division fearful of his combat sports abilities, he might want to do something very few combatants have done over the last decade, and that's finish UFC on FOX 17 opponent Junior dos Santos.

Another guy who, according to Big Reem, is scared shitless.
