Giorgio Petrosyan's long-awaited return to the GLORY ring was announced recently, and now and opponent for "The Doctor" at GLORY 25 has been revealed.
Josh Jauncey (23-5), the young Canadian star who has quickly climbed the Lightweight ranks, will take on Petrosyan at The Palaper in Monza, Italy, on Nov. 6, 2015, as announced by the kickboxing promotion earlier this week.
Jauncey, 22, last fought at GLORY 22 in France back in June, losing via unanimous decision to Sittichai Sitsongpeenong in the Lightweight tournament final after defeating Coulibaly Djime by technical knockout in the semifinal round. He is now 4-1 in GLORY competition and currently the No. 4-ranked fighter in the division.
"This is a must-see match-up between the living legend and the can't-miss prospect." said GLORY CEO Jon Franklin. "Jauncey has become a fan favorite very quickly, putting on a spectacular show each time he enters the GLORY ring.
"Petrosyan is currently fifth in the rankings and coming back from a long layoff to reclaim the top spot. Is he still at that level? And Jauncey has been on an absolute tear in the meantime. Is it too early or is he ready to jump into the title talk at only 22 [years old]? These are the questions that will be answered in November."
Petrosyan (78-2-1), 32, makes his return to the GLORY ring after almost a two-year absence. The Armenian kickboxing legend was upset by Andy Ristie in the semifinal round of the four-man tournament at GLORY 12 in New York back in Nov. 2013, suffering the first knockout loss of his career.
"The Doctor" returned to action this past January, winning a pair of decisions over Erkan Varol and Enriko Kehl in Italy.
The GLORY 25 card will also feature a one-night, four-man tournament in the Welterweight division, with the winner earning a shot at the current division champion, Nieky Holzken. The tournament participants will be announced at a later date.
