Longtime mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran Clay Guida returns to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Octagon to battle featherweight stalwart Thiago Tavares at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 77 event on FOX Sports 1 on Nov. 7, 2015 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
UFC made the bout official on Friday.
Guida (32-15), a fringe contender at both 155 and 145 pounds, will take on the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt while looking to establish some consistency in the featherweight class. After compiling a 9-7 record as a UFC lightweight, the 33-year-old wrestler migrated a division lower to test the waters, where he amassed mediocre results.
Fortunately enough, "The Carpenter" is coming off a victory in which he trounced Robbie Peralta via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 63 back in April.
Tavares 19-6-(1), on the other hand, has seen his UFC career become riddled by injury and is now heading into his showdown with the heavy-hitting wrestler off a disappointing third-round knockout loss at the hands of Brian Ortega (check out his mangled face here).
Like Guida, Tavares also fought at lightweight, where he put together a 8-5-(1) record.
UFC Fight Night 77 is headlined by a middleweight trilogy fight between Vitor Belfort and Dan Henderson. The card will take place inside Ginasio do Ibirapuera with "Prelims" on UFC Fight Pass.
