This is the way the prestigious professional boxing career of Floyd Mayweather ends, not with a bang, but a whimper.
After 19 years of pugilistic supremacy, Mayweather's storied undefeated run comes to an (apparent) end TONIGHT (Sat., Sept. 12, 2015) when he takes on former WBC and IBF champion Andre Berto inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
MMAmania will deliver LIVE coverage of "Mayweather vs. Berto" below, starting with the Showtime pay-per-view (PPV) broadcast at 8 p.m. ET.
Mayweather (48-0, 26 KO) finally faced long-time rival Manny Pacquiao earlier this year, taking home a unanimous decision in incredibly underwhelming fashion. He had previously spent all of 2014 dealing with Marcos Maidana, whom he edged in the first fight and cruised past in the second.
Berto (30-3, 23 KO), meanwhile, has won two straight since his upset loss to Jesus Soto Karass. After ending a 13-month layoff with a decision over Steve Upsher Chambers, Berto stopped the gritty Josesito Lopez in the sixth round last March.
The other legitimate champion under The Money Team (TMT) umbrella, Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KO), joins the card as well, putting his WBC Super Middleweight title on the line against George Groves (21-2, 16 KO). Jack earned his belt with a win over the unbeaten Anthony Dirrell in April, while Groves is riding a two-fight win streak since his thrilling duology with Carl Froch.
The PPV boxing card will also include a pair of Mexico vs. Puerto Rico showdowns: WBO Super Featherweight Champion Roman Martinez (29-2-2, 17 KO) looking for his second win over Orlando Salido (43-13-2, 29 KO) in the co-main event and Jhonny Gonzalez (58-9, 49 KO) opening the card against Jonathan Oquendo (25-4, 16 KO), also at 130 pounds.

"MAYWEATHER VS. BERTO" PLAY-BY-PLAY UPDATES:
Floyd Mayweather vs. Andre Berto
Round one: Jabbing early. Floyd's the faster of the two, it seems. Good jabs from Mayweather. Berto struggling to reach Floyd with his own jab. One minute in. More jabs; neither man's landed a clean power punch yet. One minute to go. Clinch. Lead left hook by Floyd. Clinch. This fight is godawful already. 10-9 Mayweather.
Round two: Berto whiffs, Floyd clinches. More jabs by Mayweather. Clinch. One minute in. More jabs. Clinch. I am unreasonably angry at this fight. Floyd whiffs on a left hook, clinch. Berto gets him to the ropes and misses with some punches before Floyd clinches. One minute to go. Left hook from Floyd. Clinch. Blargh. 20-18 Mayweather.
Round three: Berto trying to jab with him, not really finding any success. Looping right from Floyd. One minute in. Clinch. Berto whiffs on some more punches and Floyd clinches. Berto actually somewhat aggressive, thankfully. One minute to go. Counter right from Mayweather, who slips. More pursuit by Berto, clinch. Lead left by Floyd. 30-27 Mayweather.
Round four: There are nine more rounds of this. Nine rounds. 27 minutes of fighting and another eight between rounds. Why.
Decent offensive burst for Berto with Mayweather on the ropes. Berto's trying, I'll give him that. One minute in. He can't land a clean shot and Mayweather's using his usual mix of clinching and good right hands. Left hook by Berto. One minute to go. Clinch. Clinch. 40-36 Mayweather.
Round five: Berto swings and either misses or hits shoulder. Floyd ties up and lands good right hand potshots. Floyd gratuitously abuses the fact that Kenny Bayless is too spineless to take a point for clinching. Viewers of this fight question both themselves and the society that let this abominable thing happen. It's a Mayweather fight and it looks exactly like you pictured it would. Berto, bless him, is doing his best, but he doesn't have the accuracy or volume to catch Floyd, who's giving him every opportunity by chilling out on the ropes. 50-45 Mayweather.
Round six: According to replays, Berto punched Floyd directly in the junk during that round, which is about as much of a moral victory as he could reasonably expect.
Floyd actually lands a couple of decent power shots. Berto comes back with a counter left hook. Floyd lands a lead left hook, right hand, and left hook as the final minute rolls around. More good jabs and a counter right by Floyd. Both land rights inside. Floyd to the body in the last few seconds. 60-54 Mayweather.
Round seven: Both of them bonk the body. I say "bonk" because things like "attack" imply actual possibility of injury. Berto's actually not doing too terribly bad, but that might be because Floyd is acting like he barely cares. Berto's missing with pretty much everything of note save for some short-range punches he's smothering due to the distance. Clinche. Bonk bonk.
Now Floyd actually opens up a bit and Berto fires back. Maybe do a bit more of that. 70-63 Mayweather.
Round eight: We did this. We let this happen. We're all complicit in this,
Go, Berto. Swing your tiny little T-Rex arms. We have no faith in you, but we all wish you well. Rage, Berto. Rage.
Oh hey, Floyd actually looked like he was trying to hurt him for a few seconds there. Can't be having that. More clinching! More jabs! More decent right hands that utterly fail to hurt a guy who got dropped a combined four times by Victor Ortiz and Robert Guerrero! Do your thing, Floyd. You bastard. 80-72 Mayweather.
Round nine: You know the saddest thing in this, a beautiful menagerie of sadness? There are people who paid $75 to watch this on PPV in HD. These are thinking, functional human beings. These people vote.
No, wait, the saddest thing is the ladies in the audience chanting "TBE" to their woman-beating cretin of a hero, who will be making nearly $1 million per minute in guarantees alone.
Oh hey, more forehead-to-forehead punches from way too close a distance to have any impact at all. We got about ten seconds of actual combat in the last thirty seconds or so, so there's that at least. 90-81 Mayweather.
Round ten: You know what I want? I want aliens to be watching this. I want aliens, wise and giving, to monitor our transmissions and watch this. I want them to see that we are not worth saving.
I also want them to abduct Kenny Bayless and beat him over the head until the words "excessive clinching constitutes a foul" are etched into every wrinkled crevasse of his brain. 100-90 Mayweather.
Round eleven: Oh my god, Vergil Hunter actually told Berto the fight was close. He's suffering enough, Vergil, you don't have to lie to the man.
This fight is everything we expected it to be. If you're wondering why I'm so reluctant to actually do a technical evaluation of each round, it's because I want you to read this. If you're reading this, you're not watching the fight, and that's the only mercy I can provide.
Floyd just tried to pump up the crowd. There are people, actual people, standing up and cheering. These people walk among us. 110-99 Mayweather.
Round twelve: Do you want to be entertained tonight? Go over to BadLeftHook's comment section. Those glorious bastards are on friggin' fire right now.
Floyd hasn't even managed to cut Berto or make him swell up. Berto's face is made out of construction paper. You could close one of his eyes with harsh language. Say what you will about Guillermo Rigondeaux, at least he has the decency to actually hurt people. And of course Floyd flat-out runs away for the last fifteen minutes. 120-108 Mayweather. God help us all.
Final result: Mayweather def. Berto by unanimous decision
-end-

Another good uppercut from Martinez. Salido landing more good rights and a left hook. To the body now. Martinez is game but eating a worrying number of punches from Salido.
