You know that crazy December frenzy Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has planned to close out 2015?
Well, Fabricio Werdum wants in on it.
According to a report from "UFC Tonight," the UFC Heavyweight champion doesn't want to sit around too long and definitely doesn't expect to be on the sidelines until March 2016. That's when UFC President Dana White declared he and Cain Velasquez would tango for a second time.
However, the management team that represents "Vai Cavalo's" adamantly stated that he Brazilian bomber wants to return as soon as Dec. 2015, refuting claims that Werdum told White he'd prefer for a return to action in early 2016.
The promotion currently has four events planned for the month of December, including an unprecedented back-to-back-to-back series that will include UFC Fight Night 80 on Thurs., Dec. 10, 2015, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 22 Finale on Fri., Dec. 11, 2015, and UFC 194 on Sat., Dec. 12, 2015.
If that weren't enough, the ZUFFA-owned comapny will stage UFC on FOX 17 the following weekend (Sat., Dec. 19, 2015) in Orlando, Fla., which will feature a Lightweight title fight between Rafael dos Anjos and Donald Cerrone.
Having said that, it might seem real easy to plug in Werdum vs. Velasquez 2 somewhere in there; however, all of those aforementioned events already have high-profile main events, excluding UFC Fight Night 80. But, since that event will air on UFC Fight Pass, staging this 265-pound title fight on that card is out of the question.
A good option would be UFC 195 on Jan. 2, 2015, which currently has Robbie Lawler taking on Carlos Condit for the Welterweight title as the main event.
Werdum and Velasquez initially went toe-to-toe on June 13, 2015, in the main event of UFC 188 inside Arena Ciudad in Mexico City, Mexico, which saw Werdum claim stunning third round submission victory (video highlights).
