Derek Brunson knocked the smile off of "Smile'n" Sam Alvey's face at UFC Fight Night 73 earlier tonight (Aug. 8, 2015) in Nashville, Tenn.
The No. 15-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight dropped Alvey with a left hook against the cage and followed up with big punches on the ground to earn the technical knockout victory inside Bridgestone Arena.
Referee Mario Yamasaki waved off the fight at the 2:19 mark of the opening round. However, the "Music City" crowd was not pleased with the stoppage.
Brunson got after it early and rocked Alvey along the fence. From there, the 31-year-old Middleweight smelled blood and continued to swarm Alvey with a relentless attack. He landed punch after punch, never allowing Alvey to recover, until he locked up the technical knockout win.
An impressive win by Brunson, who has now won three straight. He improves to 14-3 overall and is now 5-1 in the UFC. A fighter in the top-ten will likely be next for him.
With the loss to Brunson, Alvey has his three-fight win streak snapped and is now 26-7 (1) overall.
