Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will be defending her 135-pound title against undefeated division contender Holly Holm at UFC 195, simply because mixed martial arts (MMA) fans are sick of watching Miesha Tate get run over by the "Rowdy" judoka.
Well, that's according to this guy.
But just because the promotion doesn't want to see Rousey vs. Tate 3, doesn't mean matchmakers have to default to "The Preacher's Daughter," especially considering A) she's only ranked No. 9 at bantamweight and B) there is a more "dangerous" contender waiting in the wings.
"I don't agree with that fight, that Holly Holm fight. I don't think that's smart. I would have gone with Amanda Nunes before Holly Holm. Amanda Nunes looked like a badass when she knocked out Sara McMann. That's a more dangerous fighter. A more marketable fighter. [Holm] is only the best boxer in the world if Ann Wolfe decides not to box."
This is Ann Wolfe, for those of you unfamiliar with the potty-mouthed pugilist.
While Nunes (11-4) already proved she's as dangerous as they come at 135 pounds, it was less than a year ago when "Lioness" was smashed by fellow contender Cat Zingano, and her two rebound wins came over Shayna Baszler and Sara McMann.
Baszler has since been released and McMann is just 2-3 under the ZUFFA banner.
The issue stems from Rousey's dominance as champion. Outside of a brief headlock from Liz Carmouche, the champ has never been in any kind of real trouble and only left the first round once in her combat sports career. And while she's busy with Holm, Nunes can make a statement in this proposed fight.
As for Zingano? Here's an idea...
