Plenty of landmark mixed martial arts (MMA) events have taken place over the last seven years in which Patrick Cote went without a stoppage in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Rival MMA promotion Strikeforce folded, two women's divisions have been established; as well as a new uniform and drug policy.
Cote -- wanting to put an end to the stoppage drought -- planted Josh Burkman on the canvas (recap here) during the third round of their UFC Fight Night 74 main card match up inside SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, last night (Sun,. Aug. 23, 2015).
For much of the first frame, the pair of Welterweight veterans went back-and-forth with "People's Warrior" having success early with side kicks. He also defended a takedown by "The Predator."
However, the tide turned when the Canadian clobbered Burkman with a right hand, prompting the latter to unleash a smile.
In the second frame, the 35-year-old Cote opened up a bit more, only after Burkman took him down briefly. Burkman made Cote pay in the final round, rocking him against the fence, but the latter stayed composed.
Cote would have the last laugh as he dropped Burkman with a picture-perfect right hand, before polishing him off with hammer fists for the third-round technical knockout.
Cote improves to (22-9). Burkman drops his third-straight Octagon bout and falls to 27-12-(1).
