Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heads north of the border for the second time this year as the promotion brings an intriguing line up of mixed martial arts (MMA) bouts to the Sasktel Centre in Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada, tomorrow evening (Sun., Aug. 23, 2015).
Fighters, including Featherweight main event combatants Max Holloway (13-3) and Charles Oliveira 20-4-(1), made appearances during open-workouts for the public on Fri. Aug. 21, 2015.
First, it was the aforementioned duo, putting on a striking spectacle for all those in attendance. Even though both fighters are characterized as polar opposites in terms of style, one of them at least believes he possesses the same skill-level as the other.
"I have always said that I have got to respect his striking," Oliveira told UFC cameras. "I have worked a lot on my stand-up and I believe my striking is on the same level as his."
In the evening's co-main event, perennial UFC 170-pound contenders meet as Erick Silva 18-5-(1) takes on late-replacement Neil Magny (15-4). A win over Magny for the Brazilian Silva would be important in advancing himself into UFC's Welterweight rankings.
He believes Magny doesn't possess any type of weapons that he hasn't already been faced with.
"Magny poses the same threats that any professional fighter would pose against me," Silva said. "He kicks. He punches. He's tall, but I've been training with a lot of tall guys at my gym."
Elsewhere on the UFC Fight Night 74 main card is another Welterweight meeting of veterans when Patrick Cote (21-9) clashes with the struggling Josh Burkman 27-11-(1).
