Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is bringing fans a fantastic Lightweight tussle that pits an eagle against a boogeyman.
No, this isn't folklore, but rather an enticing 155-pound frenzy between Top 10-ranked Lightweight contenders Khabib Nurmagomedov (22-0) and Tony Ferguson (19-3). The talented pair will throwdown at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 22 Finale on Dec. 11, 2015, in "Sin City," with the site yet to be determined.
The LA Daily News' Brian Martin first reported the news.
In what will be a powerful spectacle between two bruising 155-pound standouts, "The Eagle" and "El Cucuy" collide, putting two of UFC's longest active win streaks on the line. Of course, Nurmagomedov is on a tremendous roll, having won 22-straight fights (six in UFC), while Ferguson -- who recently routed (highlights here) recent Bellator acquisition Josh Thomson at UFC Fight Night 71 back in July -- is a winner of six-straight UFC bouts.
The dominant Dagestani grappler -- who maintained previously that he would like to face former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis or "sucker" Nate Diaz -- will return from a 20-month layoff because of reoccurring knee issues. In contrast, the 31-year-old Ferguson has fought five times over the course of a 14-month period.
Nurmagomedov and Ferguson bolster an expanding TUF 22 Finale card, which already has Joe Lauzon vs. Evan Dunham and Mike Pierce vs. Ryan LaFlare.
Featherweight contender Frankie Edgar also accepted a Twitter challenge from Jeremy Stephens to fight on that date, however nothing has been announced or booked by UFC.
