Top-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight contender, Matt Brown (No. 5), has an extreme stance when it comes to mixed marital arts (MMA) fighters who are caught using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs).
In fact, "The Immortal" admitted that he didn't want to get "murdered" inside the Octagon by a "known juicer," calling for a lifetime ban for those who try and cheat the system. Unfortunately for him, under the new anti-doping, which went into effect on July 1, 2015, fighters who test positive for banned substances face a two-year ban from the sport.
So it's no surprise that Brown was less than thrilled to learn that all-time great, former Middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, was suspended for just one year -- and fined only a portion of his UFC 183 purse ($380,000) -- when he was popped for using steroids.
FOX Sports 1 captured his reaction:
"I have no respect for people that cheat. Like I've said many times before, I think he should have been (suspended) four years, take his whole damn purse away, if not a lifetime (ban). I don't see anything wrong with a lifetime ban."
Zero tolerance would certainly put the fear of drug test failure into those fighters who are looking to gain a competitive edge, as well as those who attempt to game the system with new supplements and cycling techniques.
And certainly make fans -- and promoters -- think twice about who should be anointed the "greatest of all time."
Brown is slated to fight Kelvin Gastelum next in the main event of UFC Fight Night 78, which is set for Nov. 21, 2015, at Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico.
