In one of the more thrilling bouts at 190 last night (Sat., Aug. 1, 2015) inside HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (results here), Antonio Silva tangled with Soa Palelei in a match up of Heavyweight bruisers.
"Bigfoot" was eager to make his way to the Octagon and rid himself of a downward 0-3-(1) streak by taking out "The Hulk." Silva began the tilt in a hurry, backing his Australian opponent into the cage, landing a few solid knees to the body and thigh of Palelei.
During a lull in the mixed martial arts (MMA) action, the 38-year-old Palelei dropped for a takedown and landed in the Brazilian's half guard. Palelei rained down heavy ground-and-pound, which stunned Silva, who then stumbled back to his corner at the end of round one.
Silva came out in round two with a sense of urgency, immediately landing a huge uppercut that sent Palalei backing up into the fence, where the former was able to land again with an uppercut, as well as a knee.
Palelei crumbled to the mat, right before Silva followed him and put the finishing touches on a sweet comeback win. Silva notched his 14th victory by second-round knockout, handing him his third UFC win.
