Anderson Silva scrubbed from rankings following drug suspension

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently updated its official fighter rankings and one name is notably absent for the first time since the promotion began the arbitrary number game.

Anderson Silva, long considered one of the top middleweights on the planet and a pound-for-pound great, has been erased from the rankings following a one-year suspension handed down by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for doping.

It's a mixed message being sent by an organization which recently posted a statement about the suspension on its website, praising the former UFC champion's "great career" and looking forward to his return in 2016.

Perhaps it should come as no surprise as Jon Jones was similarly scrubbed from the rankings in April following his involvement in an alleged felony hit and run car accident.

In other UFC rankings news, Polish strawweight fighter Joanna Jedrzejczyk has squeaked into the pound-for-pound top 15 rankings, making her the second woman to make it onto the list in the organization's history.

It looks like only a few of the categories were updated since there's been little change since we last shared the rankings on Monday (Aug. 10).
