Nearly 11 years ago, Frank Mir was on top of the world, having claimed his first Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) title in dramatic fashion over the previously undefeated Tim Sylvia in June 2004.
The jiu-jitsu ace dismantled the heavyweight giant's arm in just 50 seconds at the UFC 48 pay-per-view (PPV) event, picking up the 265-pound strap in the process. Mir's title reign would be short-lived, however... we know how that story goes.
Since then, the 36-year-old veteran has endured a rollercoaster ride of a career, suffering a quartet of disappointing losses before dusting off his boots and toppling Antonio Silva and Todd Duffee in 2015. Now, Mir faces Andrei Arlovski, the man he was originally scheduled to defend his first title against way back in 2005.
The duo will face-off in the co-main event of the UFC 191 mixed martial arts (MMA) event in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sept. 5, 2015 (more on that fight here).
UFC 191 features a flyweight championship rematch pitting pound-for-pound star Demetrious Johnson against the explosive John Dodson. Elsewhere on the card, former light heavyweight No. 1 contender Anthony Johnson makes his return against the leather-swinging Brit Jimi Manuwa, while women's strawweight Paige VanZant looks to rid herself of Australian grappler Alex Chambers.
