Marcos Galvao vs Eduardo Dantas championship rematch to headline Bellator 144

Bellator MMA

This one can truly be said to be a rematch two years in the making.

Bellator MMA Bantamweight champion Marcos Galvao has only one blemish on his record in all that time, losing his title shot to Eduardo Dantas back at Bellator 89. In the interim, Dantas would be knocked off at Bellator 128 by Joe Warren , who would in turn scream in pain and verbally submit to Galvao at Bellator 135.

In a division that has featured interim titles and multiple title changes, there is now a chance for some stability if Galvao completes his first successful title defense against Dantas in the main event of Bellator 144, which will take place inside Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on Oct. 23, 2015.

Dantas' record over the same time period is almost as impressive as Galvao's -- his only loss besides Warren in that same time span was a surprising first round knockout by Tyson Nam in Brazil. It did not affect Dantas' status as Bellator champion, however, and he followed it with two successful title defenses afterward (including Galvao).

The only clear way to establish who the better man is would be to have the current champion face the former champion. And, naturally, Bellator MMA President Scott Coker agrees.

"I was thoroughly impressed with Galvao's kneebar at Bellator 135 to capture the belt. Seeing how much that title win meant to him, by taking it back home to Brazil and visiting his mother's grave, is really what mixed martial arts is all about to me. But Dantas showcased his desire to reach the top too by his performance against Mike Richman. I have no idea who is going to come out of Connecticut with the win, but I do know that those in attendance at Mohegan Sun Arena and those tuning in on Spike will be treated to a top-flight world title bout.
